Kitchen fires, often, are portrayed as humorous situations on sitcoms and popular Walt Disney World attractions. But the Southington Fire Department is taking a minor kitchen fire it responded two over the holiday weekend as a warning to residents that such incidents, often, don't come out harmless, like the one seen at the end of Disney's Carousel of Progress.

It could take days to determine what caused a massive wind-driven fire along the Mystic River Sunday night. The fire happened on Washington Street at Seaport Marine and damaged multiple buildings and boats on the property. Seaport Marine said the fire destroyed several structures and they are thankful for all the first responders for their efforts in containing the blaze.

An injured hiker was rescued from a trail near Crescent Lake on Sunday. The woman, who has not been identified, was taken to UConn Health in Farmington for an “obvious injury” to her lower leg and ankle, according to Southington police. A deadly fire Saturday morning fire on Laura Lane in New Haven is under investigation. Firefighters were called to 80 Laura Lane for a house on fire. State police say several lanes of I-84 west were shut down Sunday after a car fire led to a nearby brush fire. Police were dispatched to Exit 68 shortly after 6:38 a.m. for reports of a car fire. When troopers arrived, all occupants were safely outside of the vehicle. The car fire quickly became a brush fire, shutting down several lanes of the highway.

One dog was killed and another was rescued from a house fire that broke out Tuesday evening in Norwalk. In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay said the blaze began in the basement of the June Avenue home, which had been converted into a living space. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke emitting from each floor of the house.

Two people were injured Tuesday when a motorist driving a box truck lost control of the vehicle headed down a steep hill in Bristol. The accident was reported midday on Willis Street, where the driver of the truck lost the brakes to the vehicle. The driver was able to maneuver through a parking lot in the area before striking an oak tree on Memorial Boulevard, according to Richard Hart, chief of the fire department.

Westport firefighters doused a house fire on Rocky Ridge Road Tuesday, which fire officials blamed on an electrical problem. No injuries were reported in the 3 p.m. blaze, and though power was temporarily cut to the home, the residents were not displaced. A federal program geared to assist firefighters made its first visit to Connecticut to offer a week-long of training. Through a FEMA grant, the “Fire Ground Survival Program” came to the Manchester Fire Department to train their firefighters as well as some East Hartford Firefighters and firefighters from Manchester's 8th District Department.

The Fairfield Police and Fire departments are in line to receive a $7 million upgraded radio system to replace the 30-year-old system the departments currently use. Under the plan, which received unanimous approval by the Board of Selectpersons on Monday, the new Motorola Solutions system will be compatible with the state's Public Safety Radio System, which will ensure that Fairfield emergency services will be able to communicate with other nearby departments.

A local man was seriously burned Saturday while conducting an unauthorized fire in his backyard, resulting in burns that required Life Star to transfer him to a hospital. James F. Ryan, 89, of 4 Buttonball Rd., Danbury, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Danbury Hospital. Jim was born on January 10th, 1933 in Bethel, CT, the son of the late Thomas K. Ryan and Marion (Lee) Ryan. He was very active in sports and loved the game of basketball which he played in school and in the church leagues.

A dumpster fire ignited a blaze inside of a residential building in Fairfield. The fire happened Sunday night on Kings Highway. Authorities say it originated in a storage room of the building in a locked unit. The fire was in a large complex, which made it a little harder for firefighters to locate the source.

The Greenwich Fire Department is requesting an emergency appropriation of $98,500 for the removal of potentially dangerous firefighting foam from nine fire engines in the fleet. Two cars and part of a fence were destroyed by fire in Fairfield County while their owners were exercising inside a gym. Maurice "Moe" Cattanio, 89, of Wethersfield, CT and Moody Beach, ME, husband to the late Rosemarie Cattanio, who predeceased him in 2018, died peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Hartford Hospital, following a brief illness. A lawnmower burst into flames in Tolland Monday morning. Tolland fire officials did not specify where the accident took place, but they did share an image of the flaming mowing on social media. Mayor Lauren Garrett is looking to make longtime Fire Department leader Jeffrey Naples the agency's next chief. The Bethel Fire Department will be getting a new video surveillance system. The Board of Selectmen signed off on about $49,000 from the Capital Non-Recurring Fund for the allocation. A man was not injured after falling down a 30-foot well while blowing leaves Thursday evening in Ledyard, according to authorities. Firefighters were called to Arrowhead Drive at about 7 p.m. to rescue the man. Police at the scene said that the man was alert, but stuck in the well. A confined space rescue team sent a harness down, had the man secure himself so that he could be supported in the water, and then used a gas meter to monitor the air quality inside.

The New Haven Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Off-duty firefighter Thomas Mieles, 27, was struck and killed on Interstate 91 just south of Exit 8 near New Haven around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. State police said Mieles pulled over in the left lane after he had been involved in a separate crash.

The state Department of Transportation says its fleet of 11 electric buses remains out of service following a battery fire in July that triggered a federal investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board issued a preliminary report about the fire in September detailing how the 40-foot long electric bus operated by CTtransit became engulfed in flames while parked at a maintenance facility.

The Stamford community and fire department are mourning the death of retired Deputy Fire Chief William "Billy" J. Smith III. Smith died on Oct. 27, the Stamford Fire Department announced. He was 71. Smith was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Stamford at a young age, according to his obituary. He graduated from Stamford High School before attending the University of Connecticut.

The Easton Volunteer Fire Company has made a donation to the struggling Union Cemetery Committee to pay for maintenance and clean up. There are 44 former members of The Easton Volunteer Fire Company buried at the Union Cemetery. $4,800 from the Russ Neary Fund was donated for the work. Neary was killed in the line of duty 10 years ago while responding to the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

A college Halloween party may have contributed to a blaze that destroyed the top floor of a Gilbert Street home early Tuesday morning, the fire chief said. A 41-year-old male escaped without injury after he lost control of and rolled an oil truck he was operating on New Lebbon Road Monday morning. Newtown Police report Daniel Irizarry of Naugatuck was operating a 2002 International 400 Series 4400 oil tanker on New Lebbon around 7:25 am October 31, when the truck left the roadway, struck a utility pole on the southern shoulder, and then crossed the road, rolling onto the driver's side.

Police are investigating after the playscape at Doolittle Park was intentionally set on fire on Saturday, according to officials. Police responded to Doolittle Park at 80 South Elm Street around 11:05 p.m. on Oct. 29 to investigate a suspicious fire, according to Sgt. Stephen Jaques. Two people were hospitalized with injuries after a fire at a multi-family home in East Hartford Friday morning. The town of Greenwich gathered to celebrate the life and service of the late Chief Dan Warzoha. The chief was honored at the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company's eighth annual David N. Theis Award for Outstanding Service to the Community. The event was held at Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich. Warzoha was a lifelong member of the Glenville Department, operations manager of the Town's water treatment plant, the fire chief for six years and director of emergency management.

Bob Nelson, the "voice" of the Danbury Fire Radio during his tenure at the city's dispatch center, has died, according to the Danbury Fire Department. In a Facebook post, fire officials said Nelson started with Western Conn 911 Center (IXP Danbury) as one of its original hires and started training as a 911 telecommunicator in November 2014.

A 19-year-old male was transported to Windham Community Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening after getting trapped under a car he was working on. At a ceremony last Friday, the town's fire department was awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). VIDEO: A two-alarm fire damaged a Bridgeport flooring supply store, officials say. The fire happened at King Floor Supplies 2, located at 215 Island Brook Ave., just after 10 p.m. on Monday. Firefighters from Fairfield and Stratford were called in to assist in putting out the fire.
