The Watertown Fire Marshal's Office has announced the town winners of the 2021-22 annual Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Contest. The Watertown Fire Marshal's Office picks two winners each year from each fourth and fifth grade from all the entries submitted. VIDEO: A Beechcraft Bonanza single-engine 6-passenger plane landed in the Quinnipiac river when it was headed toward New Bedford Mass. on Thursday at around 5:30 p.m. the New Haven Police Department said. A young married couple and a dog were rescued and made it to shore safely with no injuries. They were picked up on a boat that brought them to shore said Mayor Elicker.

Two adults are dead and an infant is in the hospital after a fire broke out at a multi-family home in Waterbury on Wednesday morning. Fire officials said firefighters pulled an adult man, an adult woman, and an infantfrom the three-story house on 3rd Street. Emergency crews performed CPR on all three individuals before they were taken to a hospital, fire officials said.

PHOTOS: Several fire departments responded to 31 Wyngate Drive in Avon for a reported house fire on Wednesday. According to the Avon Fire Department, workers at the home reported seeing flames near the roofline of the house and smelled smoke. The house was a 9,000 square-foot home. A moving truck fire that happened on Interstate 84 destroyed the belongings of two military families, according to fire officials. Crews responded to the truck stop on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike at about 1 p.m. Two military families were in the process of moving from one base to another when their truck caught fire.

Bridgeport firefighters doused a two-alarm fire at an abandoned building on Oak Street Sunday night, according to fire officials. The blaze was called in at about 9:30 p.m. Initial reports did not know if there were any occupants inside, but fire officials said in addition to firefighters, police and paramedics also responded to the scene, and no injuries were reported as of Sunday night.

Multiple people are displaced and a pet was rescued after a house fire in Avon late Sunday night. Fire officials said emergency crews were called to a home on Secret Lake Road around 11:30 p.m. after getting a report of smoke. A police officer arrived first and reported smoke showing. The East Haven Rotary Club honored two first responders at its 81st annual installation dinner. Police posted to Facebook that police officer Anthony Fiorillo was awarded the Joseph Buonome Memorial Public Safety Award. The latest installment of the Picture Tolland series takes us back to the early 1960s. The Service 47 brush truck at the Tolland Fire Department was a 1947 Dodge Power Wagon. It is shown driving down past the Hicks School (which is currently the town hall) on Old Post Road in June of 1963. Service 47 was built by firefighters in the late 1950s with a 150-gallon water tank, a 10-gallon-per-minute pump, and forestry equipment.

Firefighters are reaching new heights in this city. For the first time in the New Britain Fire Department's 190-year history, two female firefighters have reached the rank of lieutenant. Mayor Erin Stewart recently announced the promotion of Lauren Burns and Petra Chesanek to lieutenant. “The city intentionally fosters an environment within our fire department that provides opportunities for female firefighters to rise up through the ranks,” Stewart said.

Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a fire at a home in Watertown, officials said. A Danbury woman got the surprise of a lifetime when firefighters showed up at her doorstep on her birthday. Marion, who is 104 years old, wanted to see some firefighters on her special day. So, they paid her a visit. The fire department said Marion walked outside to meet them without assistance and she talked about her friendship with famous people, including Martin Luther King Jr.

Discarded smoking materials started a Saturday fire in a downtown apartment complex that displaced 22 children and 15 adults. The fire spread through mulch to polyurethane foam between the exterior siding and interior walls, badly damaging a block of apartments at 11-18 Crown St., Fire Marshal John Yacovino said.

Responders freed a resident who was stuck in a railing over the weekend in Rocky Hill. The incident took place at 3:02 p.m Monday. A woman was killed in a fire on Monday morning. It's called Community Connect and the city just launched it last week. It's a secure, encrypted website, like the ones run by banks, where neighbors and business owners can upload information to help first responders.

Local and state officials are looking into an incident that injured six firefighter trainees and an instructor for the Middlesex County Fire School run by Middletown Fire Chief John “Jay” Woron II during a live burn training session Saturday. Two East Tennessee fire departments have added trucks to their fleet thanks to generous donations by a Connecticut agency. The Tolland Fire Department this week announced the promotion of Lt. Richard Walbridge to the rank of Captain. Walbridge joined the TFD in January 2014. A little act of kindness can go a long way and that was the message that sixth, seventh and eighth graders at West Side Middle School in Waterbury hope to share with the public. “I put all my love when I was making the teddy bears,” Genesis Garcia, an eighth grader said. Amity Road in New Haven is partially closed due to an overnight car crash. Officials announced the road is closed from Fowler to Wright Avenue early on Thursday morning. Thanks to the efforts of the Old Mystic Fire department and state Rep. The Norwich Fire Department battles a structure fire on June 4 at 378 Central Ave. The building is a two and a half story, multi-family building. The building was empty when crews searched it. They were able to put out the fire in about an hour. A new fire marshal was sworn in this week, bringing with him nearly two decades of experience with the Westport Fire Department. Terrance Dunn is the new fire marshal. Fairfield fire officials said a worker was killed after falling through a roof on the Fairfield University campus. Firefighters were called to the university at about 7:15 a.m. after receiving a report that a private roofing contractor fell through a skylight. The New Hartford volunteer Fire Department is offering to make an install a green, reflective yard sign depicting an address number for only $25, saying it can save time in future emergencies. The Shoreline East train stopped running on Saturday after the storm caused a tree to fall and set a wire on fire, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said. According to CT DOT, a tree was loosened by the storm and fell on a wire at Shaws Cove near New London. A fire erupted, causing the Shoreline East Train to stop.

A dog was rescued from a house fire in Hamden Wednesday afternoon. A man was seriously burned after trying to put out a fire inside his home on Hayes Street in Easton, police said. Stratford Fire Chief Brian Lampart has announced that he will retire effective July 1, according to Mayor Laura R. Hoydick. Lampart was appointed fire chief by Hoydick on Jan. 28, 2020. Before that, he served 32 years in the Stratford Fire Department, beginning as a firefighter at the age of 19. He served as deputy fire marshal for 11 years, then fire marshal for nine years before being named interim chief, then chief of the Stratford Fire Department.

VIDEO: The 1930 American LaFrance Tiller Truck is now back home. The Middletown Fire Department used the truck from 1930 to about 1963 and recently got a call from someone in Binghamton, New York – the old truck was sitting on a lot there. Stony Hill fire crews rescued a worker who was trapped after a trench collapse on Budd Drive. The worker was trapped in a hole 13 to15 feet deep, with dirt up to his chin. He was conscious and responding when firefighters arrived. After equipment arrived, including equipment from Danbury, crews were able to shore up the hole to prevent further collapse.
